How the Harrison System Will Affect Society!
CRIME:
Crime does pay, according to the most recent FBI
statistics. Only one in twenty stands a chance of facing punishment after
committing a crime. Most businessmen would consider these mighty good odds.
When you add the fact that prisoners usually come out of prison more criminally
inclined than when they entered, it's little wonder the crime rate grows
continuously.
History reveals that crime, like goodness, feeds on itself.
Furthermore, statistics show that young people commit the most crimes. As
long as child-management methods continue to be used in the home and school,
crime will increase. Remember, crime is born in the mind of the person committing
it. Kids realize, as do the crime-prevention experts, that it's the certainty
rather than the harshness of punishment which deters. The managed child knows
the game requires that he mustn't get caught. That's all. His chances are
better than twenty-to-one, seldom are juveniles sentenced, so evasion tactics
become an automatic part of almost anything antisocial kids want to try.
Both the act and the avoidance of punishment become equally exciting challenges
- especially in the ghettos and barrios where misbehavior is viewed as a
badge of courage - if it is successful.
To change this picture, we must reprogram the child's
thinking so that he habitually wants to obey the law because it benefits
him to do so. When the personal and property rights of others become as precious
to the child as his own are, crime becomes a minor problem. As you know,
all of these things and more are offered effortlessly through System use.

As another crime-preventive measure, the System instills
a caring attitude to keep bystanders from being mere spectators to crime.
When a criminal expects his neighbor to report him, as a civic duty, public
misbehavior should lessen. The value of this can be immense with an
ever-increasing population.
Expect horrendous crime rates if the world continues
using child-management methods. When the law-abiding see the lawless do as
they please, many good citizens may feel entitled to do the same. If you
get frightened, don't expect more restrictive laws to help; these only
destroy everybody's freedom, everybody's but the criminal's!
Therefore, if you want crime decreased in your community,
use the System yourself and ask other to do so. Anyone who doesn't must expect
to possess and use greater force than the criminal who has been thoroughly
trained in the use of force from childhood.
WELFARE:
The experts tell us there is a connection between
welfare and crime. Perhaps there is. Logically, the criminal, as a nonproducer,
has so little (wealth) he seeks to enrich himself at some producer's
expense. Some socialists would have us believe that if everybody were made
equal, by robbing the rich to give to the poor, there would be no need for
crime. This is not only the stuff of which dreams are made but also thievery
- a crime. Russia and China (as Communist Nations) have lots of crime and
poor slaves who are equal. If this logic appeals to you then there is a
connection between welfare and crime. But there needn't be.
Some power-hungry politicians carry this nonsense to
the extreme. They have even intelligent citizens believing more of such equality
will cure our social ills. For example, not too long ago, welfare assistance
by the state was advanced as a remedy for poverty and unemployment. So now
only the nation is poor and the recipients refuse to work unless they can
earn double their welfare check. Until the Social Security program was enacted,
the population saved and planned for a comfortable retirement in their old
age. Now few do. The indestructible program is now broke with trillions of
dollars of debt; and it's also in the process of cutting off payments to
the truly disabled and poor, to say nothing of the reduction in vital medical
assistance. With such proof facing us, you would imagine people everywhere
would have learned a lesson; And they have - how to get their share
before anyone else can!
History has proven time and again that welfare by the
state is a cruel hoax. Like crime, it feeds on itself. It soon becomes a
way of life. And of course the politicians love it - it not only keeps them
in office but also gives them an empire as a playground. Until the minds
of citizens are indoctrinated with self-reliance, the insidious problem will
grow.
On the other hand, it's also a cruel hoax to believe
the welfare problem can be solved merely by cutting off government assistance
to the non-self-reliant. These needy people only starve and die of illness
- or they riot and take what they need from the productive.
But the big question is: How do you make adults
self-reliant without causing great pain? The answer is that you probably
don't. Then what is the solution to welfare? The answer is the Harrison System.
What else?
Welfare is a state of mind built into children: first
with child-management methods; and then by voters with government
policies. Look closely and you will see that welfare only builds a tendency
to remain poor and unemployed. By replacing child-management with System
methods, the eventual results must be self-reliant citizens. Sooner than
you think, everybody will be that way.
No truly self-reliant person would accept welfare when
he has any other alternative. System children never would. The stigma of
living off the efforts of the productive is completely foreign to their training.
But charity is an entirely different matter.

System children are conditioned to believe that self-reliance comes first
and charity comes second. Child-management reverses this process by looking
to the authority first and self-reliance second. Welfare to the System child
(that's unjustified) is a dirty word - nobody should steal from the
productive to support those who aren't productive. With such thinking as
this automatically ingrained, charity becomes a must for everyone without
a single plea being issued or even needed. Therefore, the poor and helpless
will be much better served by the truly charitable than by any debt-ridden
government which cuts off assistance at the moment it's needed the most.
Face the facts. Politicians view only the needy's voting power as important.
When the self-serving politicians run out of tax money, they inflate it with
printing presses. Inflation becomes the worst hoax of all for the poor
and helpless.
INFLATION:
When governments inflate their money, the poor and
helpless bear the brunt of the misery. People with small savings and pensions
suffer the most, since workers usually have built-in inflationary clauses
that raise wages automatically. Businesses merely pass on the hidden tax
of inflation to their customers - who include the poor and helpless. Instead
of the wealthy being hurt excessively by inflation, they are treated to an
illusion - they become even more wealthy with dollars that buy less. So really
everybody loses with inflation, except the politician. Inflation gives the
politician the means to extend his power. Eventually, of course, even the
politician gets into trouble when the government's money becomes almost
worthless.
There is nothing mysterious about understanding inflation.
Although some politicians would have the public believe it stems from excessive
prices and wages, or even the Arabs raising the cost of oil. Actually these
things have little to do with the real cause of inflation. Stated simply,
inflation is caused by the government printing paper dollars to cover its
expenses instead of taxing citizens. When taxes are so painful to the productive,
who control the majority vote, politicians are smart enough to realize that
they can buy the poor's vote with welfare and at the same time remove the
pain of taxes simply by printing more paper dollars. Inflation is no more
complicated that that. When the actual pain of inflation arrives, the politician
is either dead or retired - but seldom defeated, as his constituents love
his free-hand ways.
There are two ways to reduce and eventually eliminate
inflation: reduce government expenses; and/or increase the productivity
of citizens. Enough of either will eliminate inflation. However when both
are used, everything is accomplished faster. As you know by now, if enough
people use the Harrison System both are assured automatically.
Increased production comes with a change of attitudes
and habits. The workers must acquire self reliance, or else automation must
be employed, with everyone's approval. Yet, before the proper attitudes are
instilled, no changes are possible. All kinds of excuses are offered until
everything either remains as before or even regresses. Remember, humans hate
change unless it's fun. Increased production for kids in the System is fun
and profitable. The habit will carry into adulthood.
Child-management methods restrict human incentive and
increased production. Without the manager, little that's productive takes
place with kids. Children are afraid to be innovative or creative on their
own. As more youngsters are added more supervision is necessary, thereby
reducing the productive average for all. The product or service continues
to deteriorate in quality as the young worker becomes bored, lacks incentive
to work harder, and retains no pride in his accomplishments. Naturally, this
requires that the manager must increase his threats, coercion, and force
to get anything done. Some managers merely eliminate the child's liberty
until everyone (including the manager) begins to feel like the slave that
he is. This is the attitude of the managed child today and you can readily
recognize the same thing in adult workers. Thus, a change to System methods
must be made or else we must scratch increased production off the list of
possibilities for reducing inflation.
The other possibility, reducing government expenses,
is just as difficult to achieve with management methods. The very essence
of the technique demands dependence on authority. With helpless citizens,
a reduction is unthinkable. So, if the reduction could be made by a stroke
of the lawmaker's pen, all it would really do is lower the standard of living
for everyone. The helpless would riot or die on the streets.
By now you must realize that nothing creates non-self-reliant
people like child-management; and conversely, nothing creates self-reliant
citizens like the self-accountable methods of the Harrison System. What more
needs to be said? Maybe a lot!
System use will eliminate inflation and/or the politicians
causing it. This brings us to the basic cause of all of our ills -
government.
GOVERNMENT:
"That government which (can) govern least, governs
best" is a statement of profound wisdom. Nevertheless, until the citizens
for that government CAN become self disciplined and self motivated,
the statement must remain just wishful thinking. Children who are trained
exclusively with adult managers are fit only for more government, and never
less. But let's see what might be accomplished if the reverse were true.
Imagine a nation of adults recently graduated from System use at home and
at school.
With the reduction of big government can come "government
by the people and for the people." For example, instead of polling booths
set-up in a haphazard manner only on election day, every county in the U.S.
could have a political-science center. The latest computers and electronic
communication devices would be available there. Self-reliant voters could
merely push a button to discover: arguments pro and con on all issues
before the legislatures of county, state, and federal government; the
background and voting record of any politician; and even issues of world-wide
interest, all explained in layman's language. Of course, this is merely the
tiniest part of what could be available at such a center.
Not only could voters express views on important issues,
but it would be invaluable to the skilled legislator. He would push a button
in his office and discover his constituents exact desires on every issue,
before rather than after voting. In fact, he could do the same for any county
in the nation, just as any curious voter could do at the political center
There would be no excuse for unpopular laws, any more
than voters who felt they had no say so in their government. If the politician
misused his powers, he could be immediately impeached by a majority vote
of pushed buttons, and replaced the same way. Instead of being a power all
to himself after being elected, as he is today, he would be continuously
responsible and accountable to his constituents.
Instead of lobbying lawmakers any special interest group
needing laws passed would have to convince a majority of the voters of the
project's worth. Unless this could be done, the law would remain unpassed.
Probably the money saved on the election process would
run the political center without extra taxes being needed. Everyone in the
county who could acquire a minimum number of signatures endorsing his candidacy
would have his name placed on the ballot. With the incredible electronic
devices available today, a voter could press the appropriate button and receive
the vital statistics necessary to make an intelligent decision, no matter
the number of candidates. Thus, special interests would be cut completely
out of the picture only voters would control, never special interests.
Nevertheless, as wonderful and as easy as this change
may seem, it cannot and should not come to pass until there are sufficient
self-reliant voters to use it. The proof of this lies about us every election
day. When less than half of the eligible voters vote now, why would anyone
think these people would use a political center? It would probably become
covered with cobwebs.
When children have been trained with Harrison-System
methods, all political centers would be in use constantly. Wanting to vote
and feeling that it counts for something is an attitude which can be developed
early to become a habit as an adult. Conversely, when youngsters believe
only authority is important, and law-abiding citizens exist to serve government
rather than the reverse, such a managed child will become a non-voter as
an adult. For instance, in (Communist) Russia it's a crime not to vote for
the few eligible party members, thus the U.S.S.R. hides her
totalitarianism.
Yes! If enough people become self-reliant, wonderful
things can come to pass. Probably the truth of this statement could never
be more evident in government matters than it is with foreign policy.
FOREIGN POLICY:
Let's imagine that the United States is filled with
self-reliant citizens. Instead of spending huge sums on defense appropriations,
our voters would insist upon a foreign policy which would spread self accountable
freedom throughout the world rather than dissension and war. Once the Harrison
System was implemented in foreign homes and schools, freedom would eventually
reign in other countries also.
Self-reliant voters in the U.S. would never support
aid to any dictatorship just because the regime seemed to be against communism,
like we do today. Unless that foreign government was willing to support an
infusion of System methods into its schools and homes, the nation could sink
or swim on its own.
As country after country converted to self accountable
freedom, similar to our own, war would gradually disappear as a means of
settling disputes, just as violence disappears in the home and school when
the System is used. Instead there would be negotiated settlements effected
through the services of third parties.
Our military forces could be reduced to a fraction of
what they are now, with every position filled by a highly-trained and skilled
volunteer, instead of by so many functional illiterates who can't operate
sophisticated weapons. Fortunately for us right now, Russia has even more
such functional illiterates than we do. Once America becomes self-reliant,
no draft would be necessary - even in time of war. Every freedom-loving citizen
would volunteer to die for liberty, if need be without being asked. When
most of our citizens are Harrison-System graduates, no nation anywhere would
think of attacking us. How could any aggressor expect to succeed against
our "win or die" attitude? Even if they did win, how could they control us
afterwards? Our perpetual peace would be assured by the supposition that
nations don't start wars which are lost before they are begun. With America
fully manned by self-reliant citizens, socialism and communism wouldn't have
a chance. Of course, if they drop the atomic bomb, everybody's worries are
over - but our opponents also know this.
Even if nothing is done toward a foreign policy
indoctrination of self-reliance, many nations will begin System implementation
procedures in self-defence. If they don't, our business entrepreneurs will
rapidly take over the commercial world.
BUSINESS:
Business is the horn of plenty from which comes a
nation's growth. Unless a country's business prospers, it has little hope
for success as a nation. History has proved this time and again. But to acquire
such an envious position one thing must be present in many citizens - an
attitude of self-reliance.
To illustrate what this can do, once more let's assume
America is filled with System graduates. When this happens all commercial
competition in the world will be measured by our standards. We will become
the world leader in everything and stay that way, because we will have a
head start on all other nations. Remember, once self-reliance becomes a habit
everything just gets better and better as more and more creativity is employed.
It's like a spaceship pointed at the stars - the momentum builds as it
travels.
Americans can and should become THE business people
and entrepreneurs of the world. With the System building the types of attitudes
and habits that it will, companies the world over will seek Americans to
operate their businesses. Eventually, System graduates must dominate the
managerial positions and own most of the commercial concerns throughout the
world. Normally, no child trained with child-management methods can possibly
compete for his attitudes and habits won't allow it.
When System-trained businessmen operate the economy without
government interference, personal and property rights alike will be respected.
Ecological abuses will become past history as businessmen jealously guard
our natural resources for posterity. Unless some needed destruction increases
the value of something more important for everyone, nothing will be destroyed.
But of even more importance and value will be the knowledge that all voters
will able to trust the businessman to make such momentous decisions without
government interference.
Inspectors won't need to poke and pry, for businessmen
will have acquired a self accountable habit early in life. This means that
no commercial business will be overburdened with taxes, paperwork, unskilled
workers, unemployment insurance, social security payments, and all of the
other things big government imposes. Instead of HAVING to hire so
many members of the minority groups to meet government standards, the company
boss will seek them out as the best trained for the job. After all, minorities
have the best reasons for wanting to use the Harrison System. Let's see
why.
RACE RELATIONS:
Minorities have learned, that if they force open the
doors to economic plenty for themselves, the cupboard is usually bare. Until
minorities are not only welcomed but sought after, pseudo opportunities in
the commercial world will remain just that. Minorities must face an economic
fact which confronts every successful businessman - the largest profits are
made with the most skilled labor possessing the highest initiative. Moreover,
unless a profit is made the business folds. To employ people who are unskilled
and have no self-reliance is economically self-defeating - which, it's sad
to say, is the demand of an unreasonable proportion of minorities today.
The businessman regrets this antisocial hiring practice as much as the
minorities, but, his regret can't overcome his business judgment for long
or he won't stay in business (despite the government demanding that he must).
The only way to great economic success for minorities is in extensive Harrison-
System use at home and at school.
When minorities can prove they have more education and
self-reliance than any competitor, they won't have to demand an equal
opportunity. Instead, they'll have a tough time deciding which opportunity
to select.
Homes and schools in rural areas, along with the inner
city of the metropolis, appear to be perfect for System implementation. Private
schools could be started and funded in the beginning by charitable foundations,
until the schools become self-supporting. The poor in these areas should
hungrily gobble up System techniques. Never before have these children had
such an opportunity to become constructively self-reliant. Not only should
these kids zoom off the academic achievement chart, but they should reverse
years of (bad) attitudes and habits almost overnight. Instead of pep
talks they don't believe or understand they can experience the fruits of
initiative and self discipline. Minority children are ripe and ready to become
leaders in everything and System show pieces. After all, they have less to
lose and more to gain than most.
Therefore, with enough System use in minority homes and
schools, goals for minorities can be restructured instead of trying to establish
meaningless racial equality; the minority job applicant can stand out as
possessing more skill and self-reliance than the majority. The majority could
be the people begging for equality concessions - if they continue using
child-management methods. However, the majority of people aren't stupid and
the minority would soon become the majority once again - with everybody equal,
regardless of race or color.
